Lesotho 2026: Day 20
Lumela! Today is our final blog post. We went to the primary school briefly this morning to clean up and show the teachers their newly painted classrooms. The principal and teachers were very grateful and had many kind words for us. We only stayed for about an hour, just enough time for us to get pictures of our handiwork and photos with the school staff. When we got back to the trading post a small group of us decided to hike to a nearby waterfall just off the property. There’s a bench that we have enjoyed sitting on during our stay at Ramabanta that overlooks it so we finally decided to make the trek down to see it up close. The hike there was much easier than our previous hikes, though some of us did slip a few times going down the steep hill. The waterfall itself was beautiful, the water level was much lower than it probably is in the summer, as we could see erosion on the sidewalls from where the water typically is. The stream leading to the waterfall reminded me of a mountain river I went swimming in once in Idaho, with crystal clear, frigid water. The rocks on the banks of the stream were super cool as well, and many of them seemed to be geodes of some kind because we could see crystal formations on them. Getting to see and explore the waterfall was truly a perfect end to our stay at Ramabanta and our time in Lesotho. We leave at 6am tomorrow to begin our drive to Kruger. Lesotho has been such an incredible place to spend the last three weeks in, and it’s been truly unforgettable. I’ve met so many people and made so many meaningful connections with people both on the trip and in the community.
Signing off,
Kai
Hello everyone , today wraps up our final day here in Lesotho. This moment is very bittersweet for many of us due to leaving what we have called home for the past 3 weeks. Today we finished up at the primary school with our paintings as well as the playground. The teacher's reactions made everything worth it they could not have been more appreciative. To wrap our day up many chose to hike, go to the community center, or take the day to relax. I spent my day relaxing while playing card games. Tomorrow, we head out for South Africa to begin our safari lifestyle. Thank you, Lesotho, for the everlasting impact you’ve made on all of us.
