Application and Alumni

The National Science Foundation’s Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program aims to recruit, prepare, and retain highly effective secondary math and science teachers for high-needs schools through the ASCENT-STEM program. The program offers junior and senior undergraduate students pursuing Adolescent Young Adult Licensures in Biology, Chemistry, Integrated Science, Mathematics, or Physics approximately $20,000+ scholarships per year and $10,000 stipends during your first-year teaching as funding permits.

Criteria and Eligibility: All prospective Noyce Scholars will need to meet the following criteria:

Before Witt.
  • Have status as U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents;
  • Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before applying to the program;
While at Witt
  • Achieve and maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.0
  • Declare a major in biology, chemistry, mathematics, or physics, as well as a minor in adolescent/young adult (AYA) education;
  • Have at least junior status;
  • Display the knowledge, skills, and disposition appropriate to teaching (as defined by Performance Outcomes for the TEP);
  • Submit a two-page essay on the value of the Noyce scholarship to their professional STEM teacher development.
After Witt.
  • Commit to complete two years of service as a math or science teacher in a high-need school for each year of the scholarship (or four years total).  We will require you obtain a letter from the district attesting to this;
  • Agree to remain connected with the Noyce project team after graduation and through their teaching obligation;
  • If you pursue the post-graduate stipends, we require additional documentation permitting the stipend under district collective-bargaining agreements.

"Receiving the scholarship has truly been a honor and has helped open the door to more opportunities. With this scholarship, I have presented in Washington D.C; learned the wonders of the Smokey Mountains; and relieved years of financial debt. I wouldn't have been able to become a teacher today without the help of this scholarship. If you are truly passionate about teaching in STEM and are committed to meeting all stipulations; go for it. Open every door you posibly can and don't wait for the right circumstances."

"At first, I was hesitant because of all of the hard work and experiences that set me out of my comfort zone with this scholarship, but I am so glad that I did it. My internship at PNNL for the US Department of Energy was one of the biggest things holding me back from applying, but after I did it, I knew having that real-world applied math experience would help me in my teaching assignment. It is an experience that I would do over and over again."

"The Robert Noyce Teacher program transformed the course of my life. It gave me the financial independence to pursue my goals, opened my eyes to possibilities beyond Ohio, and empowered me to advocate for my students in ways I had never imagined. After graduating, Noyce fueled my commitment to championing my students and their families both personally and professionally. In 2016, this dedication led me to pursue a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education so I could better support my students in the classroom. Choosing Noyce and committing to a Title I school after graduation has had a profound and lasting impact—not only on my own life, but on the lives of my students through the meaningful, lifelong connections and friendships we’ve built."

"Receiving the Noyce Scholarship was life-changing. Beyond the financial support, it gave me the confidence to step into leadership roles within my school district from the very beginning. The Noyce summer programs also connected me with educators from across the country whose relationships I continue to value and maintain today. This scholarship will provide a strong foundation for your professional journey. It will equip you with the confidence to navigate the challenging early years of teaching and set you up for a more fulfilling and successful career."

"Honored doesn’t feel like a strong enough word to describe how I felt earning this scholarship. It absolutely changed my life and my family’s, leaving me with no college debt and an amazing support system of teachers both at my schools and at Witt. I gained an amazing teacher mentor that I still am close with to this day. I was able to grow with her in her classroom since I stayed with her for a majority of my teaching hours. I loved working where I was placed after graduation - amazing teachers who were passionate about their jobs. I never mention 51³Ô¹ÏÍø without bringing up how lucky and grateful I am for the Noyce Scholarship and the opportunities it provided me. Tiger up!"
